The recent heat wave has been hard on everyone, but it has been especially brutal on infants, who are unable to regulate their own body temperatures, and toddlers, who are more susceptible to the heat.
When the temperatures are exceptionally high, infants should be kept indoors as much as possible. IF you have to take your baby outside, make sure he is protected from the sun, fully hydrated, and returned to a cool location as soon as possible.
Although toddlers fare somewhat better in scorching weather, they should still not be outdoors for extended periods of time. When you do go outside, make sure that your child travels by stroller with a sunshade; sitting will keep him from exerting too much energy and the covering will protect his skin and eyes from the strong UV light.
A lightweight stroller with amenities is your wisest selection in this season; you will be able to maneuver it without breaking a sweat. Many lightweight strollers offer the same amenities as regular carriages. Based on personal experience, I would recommend the the Valco Baby Latitude EX. It has a large sunshade, ample storage space, and can be folded up and wheeled around, which makes it easy to transport. The large basket beneath the seat provides ample room for a cooler that contains cold beverages; a necessity for keeping both you and your child hydrated.
When it is nearly 100° outside, no one should be outdoors for too long. If you and your child must venture into the open muggy air however, choosing a stroller that is both easy to handle and equipped to guard against the sun, will help protect you and your little one’s health.
